Delaricca Barracks (I D Buchanan)
Places of Significance - Cairns Regional Council

The barracks are significant as a now rare form of accommodation in a period in which labour for working in the sugar industry was provided by a number of nationalities, and wages and conditions were basic. Accommodation was placed close to the cane fields and was often very basic—with a kitchen and a bath area leading to an L shaped building—often containing only a small number of labourers. These buildings have long been abandoned as accommodation and used for other purposes (storage, spare accommodation, horse stalls etc).
