Cinzah: "Symbiosis is defined as ‘the living together of unlike organisms.’ The ocean relies upon each individual creature, ecosystem, and form of life to work together in harmony for its survival. While diving on the Great Barrier Reef, I was amazed by the level of biodiversity and rich abundance of life, the intimate connections of nature, and the codependence. - Especially between unexpected creatures, such as Moray Eels and rainbow trouts pairing up to hunt together, clown fish and poisonous stinging anemone, and groupers with their golden trevally.
The abundance of life was also mirrored by the stark reality of man's impact on the oceans, hammering home just how fragile these ecosystems really are. The mural addresses two different realms of realities, showcasing alternate outcomes and futures for our oceans. The left side of the artwork expresses the beauty of the world's oceans and reefs, as they once were, still are in some places, and could be in the future if we honor our relationship with the ocean. The right side of the mural showcases mans current impact on the worlds reef systems, with the effects of global warming - coral bleaching and ocean acidification, as well as plastic pollution. A little visual reminder that there are always two paths in life, two choices with alternate outcomes, it’s up to us to decide which direction to take.
Huge thanks to PADI for the experience to become dive certified, growing my connection and understanding of the ocean, I look forward to many more dives and artistic inspiration throughout the remainder of my life, let's keep the reef alive so we can all continue to enjoy it".
Sea Walls Australia partnered with PADI to give Cinzah a deep water diving certification while he was in Cairns on the Great Barrier Reef. This experience fed into his artwork, which is now permanently installed at Cairns Central Shopping Centre.
