42-44 Spence Street
Places of Significance - Cairns Regional Council

42-44 Spence Street is of local significance as a hotel of the 1930s in the manner of a number of new hotels erected from the mid-1920s in concrete. The building contributes to the streetscape of Cairns by its size and form and like a number of other hotels in Cairns, takes up a prominent corner in the city grid. There is a great commonality between these central hotels being as they are all concrete, designed by just a small number of architects, and all of much the same scale and form. By their commonality they come to define the hotel architecture of North Queensland and the Cairns region in particular.
