16th Australian Army Personnel Staging Camp Site
A site visited by thousands of allied soldiers during World War II as they transitioned through Cairns

Commonly known as the Redlynch Staging Camp, this site was visited by thousands of allied soldiers during World War II. It rationed and supplied soldiers transiting through Cairns on their way to the front lines, as well as troops on their way to the Atherton Tablelands for jungle training. During World War II the 6th, 7th and 9th Divisions of the Australian Army were camped on the Tablelands. Their soldiers moved to and from Cairns along the railway that runs to the north of this site.
